Frontage Outline is part of the Frontage layered font system, and is available to download on it’s own for free.

Free Font – You can download Frontage Outline for free by just paying with a tweet or Facebook post.

It’s definitely worth picking up the whole font family, as it works beautifully together as a layered type system.

Frontage is a charming layered type system with endless design possibilities using different combinations of fonts and colors. Achieve a realistic 3D effect by adding the shadow font or just use the capital letters of the regular and bold cut for stark artwork. The typeface’s design is based on a simple grid which creates the friendly, handcrafted look of facade signs. It is generously spaced for maximum impact of your message.

As a display typeface Frontage loves color and is suitable for headlines and logotypes. Details include 224 characters in six styles and manually edited kerning.

The full Frontage family is available from www.youworkforthem.com, www.myfonts.com and creativemarket.com

That’s what I set out to achieve with Simple Icons. The set is still very much a work in progress. I plan to refine and grow the set as time goes on.”

The campaign was created by Jon Morgan and Mike Watson. “It all started when we saw a woman walking through Heathrow with the word FUK hanging from her suitcase,” they say. “Turned out she’d just flown in from Fukuoka in Japan. That got us thinking, ‘maybe there are more’.”

“At one point we had 36 ads mocked-up. 9 executions eventually ran. There were some amazingly rude ones, which unfortunately will never see the light of day…”

It’s ad campaigns like this that really stand out to me, using a relatively simple concept, but executing it brilliantly. The ads could have easily been created completely digitally, but a lot of work has been put in to creating these tags from scratch, printing them, ageing them by hand, and photographing them. The stamps are a fantastic finishing touch, with great copy lines, and they really help tie the whole travel theme together.

‘E-inkey’ is a concept designed by Aleksander Suhih and Maxim Mezentsev for p1x.ru, that makes use of the E-Ink technology (mainly used at the moment for e-readers) to create a revolutionary computer keyboard.

Each key uses a small E-Ink display, which is capable of changing what the key displays, a great use for this is showing keyboard shortcuts depending on which software you are using, making application specific shortcuts much easier to use. This could also potentially be very useful for displaying different language variations and letter glyphs on the keyboard itself. The possibilities of this keyboard are almost endless, if it was fully customisable it would be a great way to make your workflow extremely efficient, without having to memorise tricky shortcuts and keystrokes! With the E-Ink technology being very power efficient, this keyboard could even be wireless, which is a great option.

It’s probably a bit too late to order any Christmas cards now, and I have been meaning to make this post since the start of December, but it wouldn’t really be Christmas without leaving things to the last minute, would it?

Here are some examples of Christmas cards that are a little bit more exciting and creative than the average card.

This card is from Wit & Whistle on Etsy, it features a cool 3D design, and even comes with 3D glasses! A nice added touch to make this simple design stand out. Check out their store for a great selection of cards.

This card is from Paperchase, they always have a nice selection of cards and other stationery from a good range of designers and illustrators, they are usually all hand crafted and printed, making them much more personal than a card from other chains.

Murray Christmas! This illustration has heaps of character, and who doesn’t love puns? This card is from Little White Lies.

This card is by Egg Press, they have a great choice of hand illustrated letterpress cards for all occasions, definitely worth checking out! This card is great and is perfect for someone who gets in a grump about Christmas!

This charming illustration is by Greg Abbott, I’m not sure if it has actually been made into cards, but it really should! Check out his website for more great illustrations.

These lovely Christmas cards were designed last year by Erin Jang of Indigo Bunting.

This card is part of a gift set made by Ryan Ho, the hand illustrated type makes for a great card.

Here’s another one from Egg Press, this card uses a lovely floral pattern and simple type.

These charming cards are by Tanya Naylor, they are 2 colour screenprints, and make the most out of a limited palette to create a great festive feel.

This card is featured on the Awesome Merchandise website, I’m not sure who designed it but it really is great! The two colours work really well together and the design of the inside is a nice thought.

Here’s another one from Greg Abbott, sometimes less is more!

Steve Mack has a great portfolio of Illustration work. These cards have a classic feel to them, and the colour palette reflects Christmas perfectly.
